10 Dog Friendly Hotels we want to check out this year

5 min read

Let’s face it. Traveling with a dog can be complicated. But finding hotels that are not only dog friendly but actually welcoming of your furry friend has gotten more easier with time. In fact, many hotels not only have pet-friendly rooms, but also go above and beyond to ensure that your pup enjoys their stay as much as you do.

To save you some time and effort we curated a list of dog friendly hotels we plan to check out this year. Check them out.

The Liberty Hotel, Boston ($$$)

This luxury hotel in Boston allows you to bring two dogs of any size. They do charge an additional fee of $100 per stay, but they have two dog-friendly floors, and you could leave your pup in the room by themselves if needed.

The Liberty was once a jail; today, it boasts incredible architecture and a location steps away from Beacon Hill. You’ll have convenient access to Fenway Park, The Freedom Trail, and Boston Public Gardens. For pups, they offer a “Yappier Hour” event in the yard where you can meet and mingle with other dog owners and let the pups run around leash free.

Hotel reviews mention that the employees of the hotel are well trained in handling dogs and any behavioral issues.

The Benjamin, New York City ($$$)

If you’re bringing your dog to the Big Apple, you might want to consider The Benjamin right in the heart of all the action. The hotel accepts two pets of any size for $60 per stay. They do not allow you to leave your pup unattended, but they do offer a variety of pet-friendly rooms.

Something we love is that The Benjamin partners with Animal League. They are a no-kill shelter, one of the largest in the country. For each pet who stays at the hotel, they donate $10 from your upcharge to the Animal League.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn/New York

If you want to provide your pup with an experience fit for royalty, you could bring them along to this hotel right on the East River in Brooklyn. The hotel is beautifully designed and offers some of the best skyline views in New York City.

The hotel asks that dogs are not left alone in the room, but they have a concierge that will help you arrange activities at some of the best dog-friendly locations in the city.

Margaritaville Key West Resort and Marina , Key West

There is no reason that your pup can’t join you in Margaritaville. This pet-friendly hotel at the southernmost tip of the country is a short three-mile drive from the airport. The Key West Resort offers world-class amenities, including America’s only living coral reef, sunset celebration, and marina boat charters.

One incredible feature of this hotel is the freedom they allow your pup. Dogs are not required to have leashes, and they have full access to the entire hotel. Most of the rooms are indoor/outdoor spaces, so your pup has plenty of areas to roam free and enjoy their vacation. If you get a ground level room, you’ll get access to a grassy patio which is ideal for pups to do their business. The only complaint about this hotel is that the rooms are slightly dated.

Four Seasons Resort Santa Barbara Biltmore , Santa Barbara California

If you are looking for true luxury for yourself and your pup, you should look no further than this West Coast hotel. This dog-friendly hotel welcomes two dogs up to 50 lbs for no additional cost. They do have some room restrictions, and pets are not allowed in every room.

One thing that separates this hotel is the care package they provide for your dog. When you arrive, they will ask for the names of your pups. During the first night of your stay, they will deliver a pet amenity basket containing a comfy bed, toys, and a food and water dish. Reviews indicate that guests are thrilled with their overall stay at this hotel. The grounds are impressive and there is plenty of green space to let your pup run around and burn off that energy at the end of the day.

If you’re looking for a pet-friendly hotel that won’t the bank; consider checking out these incredible yet more affordable pet-friendly options in some great destinations.

Ace Hotel, New Orleans ($$)

This hotel in the “Big Easy” makes traveling with your pups easy. This dog-friendly hotel charges $25 per night, and you can bring two pets up to 50 lbs. The hotel is mere steps from Lafayette Square and is close to other attractions like basketball games and art museums. Guests state that the hotel employees treat your pup like a special guest.

Kimpton Hotel Monaco , Chicago ($$)

Headed to the Windy City with your pup? The Kimpton Monaco is a great bet! This pet-friendly hotel has no additional fee for pets. Infact you can bring any type of pet including dogs, cats, birds. When you check-in, you will receive complimentary pet food and water bowls. They also provide treats in the lobby at all times.

For comfort and accessibility, they only offer low-level rooms to pet owners, so you have quick and easy access to the outdoor spaces. They do not offer any on-site green space, but you are only a short walk from the Riverwalk in Chicago.

Glamping/Airbnb ($ – $$)

If you’re more interested in “getting away” from it all, you might want to consider a unique experience using Airbnb. These getaways offer you the entire space to yourself, and some have special amenities for your pups.

Dog Bark Park Inn B&B, Idaho

Nothing says “pet-friendly” like staying in an original beagle-shaped house. This B&B offers a truly unique experience in Cottonwood, Idaho. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, you could come here and take in the incredible views and natural history of nearby towns. You and your pups will have full access to the facility as well as the nearby Dog Bark Park Visitor Center.

Historic Carriage House, Denver

This home was once a shelter for horses during the 1800s and has been featured in Architectural Digest as one of the most beautiful Airbnb properties in the US. Denver is also amongst the most dog friendly cities in the United States and many dog friendly amenities are available. If you and your pup are looking to get that big city experience without feeling like you are in a big city this lovely carriage house might be a great pit stop!

Houseboat, Charleston

This houseboat was featured on HGTV’s Tiny House Hunters. A houseboat is a great option for pet families looking to save a little money and get a truly unique experience. The boat overlooks the Charleston harbor and has excellent separation from the sea, so you don’t have to deal with movement on the boat. They charge a $75 pet cleanup fee which can be avoided if you have a service dog.
